What do you need help with?

Inside view of an insulated steel garage door with tight perimeter weather seals

An uninsulated steel door lets heat pour in during summer and out during winter. If your garage is attached to the house, sits under a bedroom, or doubles as a workshop or gym, insulation and good seals make a noticeable difference.

We can upgrade your existing door with insulation and new weather seals, or recommend an insulated door when that's the better option. Adding insulation adds weight, so we always re-check and adjust the springs afterwards.

Garage Door Insulation: common questions

What R-value do I need for a garage door?

For an unheated attached garage, R-6 to R-9 is a common target. If the garage is heated or used as living space, higher values in the R-12 to R-18 range are worth considering.

Does insulating a garage door make it heavier?

Yes, slightly. That's why the springs need to be checked and adjusted after insulation is added.

Will insulation make my garage door quieter?

Usually yes. Insulated doors are more rigid and vibrate less, which reduces rattling noise.
